the Ramayana Opens

Hear ye! Hear ye!
an adaptation of the Indian Classic Ramayana opened on Friday, May 8th, 2009.
It will show again on Sat. May 16th and Sunday May 17th at 1PM. Come one, come All.
It uses creative a story telling story theatre style to bring the complex story to
life for children and as well as those who maybe seeing it for the first time.

Catherine Allison


Catherine Allison plays Manthara and Hanuman with energy. She is also known as Madame Chocolate and took physical theatre training at the Lecoq School in Paris.

Fiona Bannister


Fiona Bannister makes a special appearance and she did the costumes. She is a journalist and medicinal research & has traveled in Asia for the past 15 years. Fiona teaches yoga therapy and dances with her daughter Azara.

Gabriella De La Casas


Gabriella De La Casas plays Ravana's Spy with sass and has played Bon Bon in the Madame Chocolat Show since she was three.

Jasper Eliot


Jasper Eliot makes his theatrical debut as Jatayu and had a varied career as a tap dancer, artist and drummer.

Sydney Lark Eliot


Sydney Lark Eliot plays the role of Bharata with a sweetness. She enjoys dancing signing and horseback riding.

Varuna Gunasekera


Varuna Gunasekera is bringing the music to the show throught the Tabla. His performaces include accompaniment for Indian Classical, Sri Lankan Classical/Folk, and Western Fusion Music. He is a disciple of Pandit Arup Chatterjee.

Thushari Jayasekera




Thushari Jayasekera plays the role of Lakshmana with determination & as everyone else she is also part of the ensemble. She is an actress, blogger, & a performance artist who loves theatre arts & film.

Kotrina Kajokaite


Kotrina Kajokaite is the Stage Manager and she is a Lithuanian native. She is preparing to study anthropology at UCLA. She just finished stage managing "Affairs of State "

Juliet Ladines


Juliet Ladines plays the role of Rama with bravery. She was born in Vancouver BC. Her recent credits include 'Glass Heels' 'Just One Night' and the Calendar" Concurrently she is in a production "the Vampire Masquerade" at the Next Stage Theater in Holywood.

Christine Loconti


Christine Loconti plays the role of Kaikeyi with vigor. She has taught dance. She received her BFA from U Mass and studied musical theatre in NY City at AMDA.

Azara Jaya Magowan-Bannister


Azara Jaya plays the Shoe Bearer is the goddess of fire. She loves to dance to Indian Music. She is five and in the above pic she is with her mom Fiona

Angela Ryskiewicz


Angela Ryskiewicz plays the Maricha and the Sea Goddess with class. She holds BFA in Theatre from Southern Oregon Univ. She has appeared in short films for Masters College, Chapman Univ and College of Art & Design in Pasadena.

Dan Ward




Dan Ward is the Producer/Director of this adaptation, who also graduated from the Theatre School at DePaul Univ. with his BFA. He has directed Dostoevsky to Shakespeare. He is also a yoga teacher. www.danwardyoga.com

Julia Ward


Julia Ward plays King Jakata and Trijata with dedication and joy. We love her quote "I'v always wanted to act my whole entire life, but never got the chance....I', m glad to be playing a kind" Because she is an adorable 5 year old.

Lesley Ward


Lesley Ward wrote the script and plays Soorpanaka with excitement. She is returning to theatre after a hiatus and hsa played such roles as Medea, Lady M, Viola etc at De Paul Univ.

Martha Ward


Martha Ward plays Sita with grace and style. she enjoys surfing, lemonade and tennis.

Marcus Woodswelch


Marcus Woodswelch plays the roles of King Dasarath, Sugriva with strength. He enjoys working in television and film but especially loves the stage.

Karen Zumsteg


Karen Zumsteg is Ravana. She plays the role with pizzaz! Some info on her upcoming projects are that she just wrapped Spud for Inclusion Films and can be spotted in Pope Dreams with Julie Hagerty. She is a member of Theatre Junkies.
